Around the World is the name of Nice’s newest and largest English-language bookstore. Located at 58 rue Gioffredo, this spiffy and eclectic bookstore is an annex of the prestigious French-language Librairie Massena just a few doors away.

I’m so proud that Around the World now features Nice Uncovered: Walks Through the Secret Heart of a Historic City and hosted a delightful book-signing event yesterday. Did you miss it? Alas. Check out this short reel!

The best bookstore in Nice, Librairie Masséna, has recently opened an annex devoted to English language books. Librairie Masséna Around the World is right across the street at 58 rue Gioffredo and fulfills an important need for Nice’s extensive Anglophone community. Naturally I was pleased and proud that they’ve decided to feature Nice Uncovered: Walks Through the Secret Heart of a Historic City. And, to celebrate the occasion I’ll be doing a book-signing there on August 22 from 5 to 7 pm. If you’re wondering what all the fuss is about, save the date and get your personally signed copy of Nice’s most popular English-language guide.

It’s great that visitors to Nice looking for a fun and in-depth look at the town can head to this convenient and centrally-located bookshop and pick up my book. And why not pick up more books? There are books of local cuisine, novels, travel guides and more. Around the World is a great initiative and I’d like to support it.

To get there, take tram line 2 to the Jean Medecin stop or bus 12 to the Jardin Albert Premier stop. See you there!

The face of Nice is changing so quickly it’s hard to keep up! The Promenade du Paillon is being extended far to the east. The TNN (Theatre National de Nice) I referred to on page 179 has been torn down. In its place is a new garden promenade, La Bourgada. Instead of climbing to the top of TNN as I suggested, you can climb up to a balcony overlooking the garden for this view.

And, as if that wasn’t enough, the Couvent de la Visitation I mentioned on page 59 as part of the Old Town walk, is now a five-star hotel, the Hotel du Couvent.I noted that the hotel was planned and now it’s completed. Although the facade extends to the Place Sainte Claire, the entrance is on 1 rue Honoré Ugo. At least for now, that’s the only entrance and it’s best accessed at the top of rue Rossetti. The hotel courtyards, lounge areas and gardens are open to the public and I highly recommend a visit to this unique place.
